Alt Aussee Salt Mine

Today was a rainy day so we decided to visit the Salt Mines in Alt Aussee.
In the mines visitors have to wear the traditional miners' outfits.
Here we are during the tour.
700 meters into the mountain is the St. Barbara Chapel.
We slid down the big slides like true miners.
During World War II artworks like Michelangelo's Bruges Madonna,
or Vermeer's "The Art of Painting" were hidden in this mine.

Then we walked around the Ödensee, a small lake near Bad Aussee.
Lakeside is a nice restaurant called the Kohlröserlhütte. We ate a late lunch.
At night we watched "The Monuments Men" to get the story of the art in the mines.
